IBM is releasing a family of Granite code models to the open-source community. The aim is to make coding as easy as possible — for as many developers as possible.

Come check out InstructLab AI, an open source, open community, open contribution development workflow for training LLMs! It's based on the new LAB training strategy and can be combined with things like RAG. All powered by open source and truly open licensed models.
As a proud member of the open source community since 1995, as being part of the OSS revolution as a #RedHat, #Canonical and #SuSE employee, with regrets I have to admit @geerlingguy is not totally wrong:

(Corporate Open Source is Dead)
This is why I'm increasingly embracing the #BSD world, particularly #FreeBSD.
Also, some of the reasons are highlighted by @mms in this post:
In my opinion #GNOME became too big and got too much support from #RedHat, to the point of being arrogant and deciding to abuse #Freedesktop spec like other implementations didn't exist at all.
Major distros, including #Fedora, should in my opinion move to #KDE as default DE since its the most complete Freedesktop implementation and leave GNOME as a flavour people intentionally opt-in.
This would help bringing GNOME down to earth.
After more annoyances that Gnome/RedHat is pulling lately ( https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/adwaita-icon-theme/-/issues/288 ), I just donated to #Linux #Mint, instead of my original intention, #Gnome.
The Gnome Project is a wall-garden, but not of the Apple kind. It's a club of mostly #Redhat programmers & a few select others, and either you're in it, or you're not. Your user needs, your bug reports, your patches, all end up on /dev/null. They listen to no one. Never have, never will.
So, my money went to a fork.
Consolidation in big tech continues. Though now #HashiCorp and #Redhat are working under the same company. Maybe the support for on prem #Kubernetes will improve.
#SecurityPatchManagement tools like #QualvoSec may help integrating automated security patches.

Red Hat released an urgent security alert for Fedora 41 and Rawhide users:
> PLEASE IMMEDIATELY STOP USAGE OF ANY FEDORA 41 OR FEDORA RAWHIDE INSTANCES for work or personal activity.

> Although Fedora 40 beta contained the 5.6 version of xz in an update, the build environment prevents the injection from correctly occurring, and has not been shown to be compromised. Fedora 40 has now reverted to the 5.4.x versions of xz.

Unlike bloated solutions like #Spacewalk or #Landscape, this framework of QualvoSec is characterized by its minimalistic design, ensuring simplicity and ease of use. It operates entirely in Python, utilizing only a handful of imports to streamline the user experience.
