Hello. I gave #NomadBSD a try few weeks ago. Other than the obvious fact that I had to learn some low level technical stuff, as my #Linux knowledge no longer works(I deal with Terminal a lot...), it was convenient. I think for most of us it's the moving which is inconvenient not the OS itself.

For me as a Linux user, everything worked as expected. It hasn't been long since I've booted it, though. #Minetest works perfectly fine on #BSD! People always said BSDs are not much compatible with new hardwares. They also had told configuring #Wifi is a pain on #FreeBSD. But they've been wrong! Looking forward to see if #DeltaChat works.

The only thing which doesn't work as expected, is behavior of #grep comparing to the #GNU version.

@lme wow this is impressive. Just tried #NomadBSD (ZFS version) on a latest Tuxedo Infinity Book 14 and it all works except the sound. Will dig a bit further but I'm quite impressed with the first 20 minutes.

Was able to scale display, install additional software, encrypt home directory and connect to WiFi. All without any hiccups! ❤️

Yesterday we released NomadBSD 141R-20240711 based on FreeBSD 14.1.

Changes since 140R-20240126

- The base system has been changed to FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE-p2.
- A hard link creation bug concerning unionfs has been fixed.
- A calculation bug which led to an overfull UFS root partition has been fixed.
- The fusefs module has been changed to reduce (and hopefully eliminate) timeout errors on unionfs.
- The NomadBSD tools have been ported from Qt5 to Qt6.
- Several small improvements and bugfixes.

#NomadBSD is nice! Solid xfce desktop, persistent USB session (or desktop installer), and even GELI* #FullDiskEncryption, even on persistent USB.

*It stands for "Geom ELI."
As far as i can tell, only one person on the earth knows what ELI stands for. Yes, the author. Yes, I have emailed him., No, he's not telling. No, it doesn't stand for Encryption Layer Interface. Yes, I asked. 😆

Also, I've been experimenting a bit with #NomadBSD lately. It's not *quite* as polished as a Linux distro, but it's mighty nice! (Persistent #FreeBSD-based boot USB image, can do UFS or ZFS and optionally encrypt)
