gyptazy.ch is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.

This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.

I am just so amazed at how well the @phanpy@hachyderm.io web client works with . I started self-hosting phanpy last night (it is a pure static web app) and it works seamlessly. Makes me very happy when things go like they're expected. Thank you for this @cheeaun@mastodon.social!

If you're looking to host your very own single-user/a-few-users instance, you cannot go wrong with . It is simple to install on Ubuntu and works very well with some really solid clients. It is also written in C, so it is fast, with few dependencies. Great work @grunfink@comam.es, you've got a new monthly supporter on Ko-fi!

Finally installed @grunfink@comam.es! Straightforward process, no major issues. It works very well with @Tusky@mastodon.social Only issue I've had has been adding attachments. Is that supported or is there a file limit size? In any case, great job. Big fan so far.

"A simple, minimalistic ActivityPub instance written in portable C"
Others use it, but it's often brought up when people are looking for a easy way to host activitypub instance.

So, I've setup a Snac2 instance, which is a very minimalistic Mastodon-compatible fediverse server written in C, running on OpenBSD. It runs completely filesystem-based, Web UI is free of JavaScript and can be used with mobile Mastodon clients. If anyone is interested in a test account, lmk.

Here at Emacs.ch we run an experimental side instance [1] based on Snac2 [2], which is a Mastodon-compatible Fediverse server written in C, runs completly file-based and features a zero-JS UI.

It doesn't have many of the fancy features of Mastodon, but is a bright example of how a super-minimal system can do the job *very* well. It'll also work with your mobile Mastodon apps and small browsers like Dillo[3].

It runs on OpenBSD and we accept a few more testers. There is no automatic sign-up, so if you are interested, DM me with the desired account name and I'll send you the credentials.

Dear friends of and the ,
since December 2023, snac.bsd.cafe has been operational, initially in an experimental phase but has proven to be stable and reliable.

Thus, Snac2 is now available as a service of BSD Cafe. It is considered one of the best and most comprehensive "lightweight" implementations of , offering one of the best ways to interact with the Fediverse without the need for the extensive dependencies and components of Mastodon.

It is now possible to request an account on the snac2 instance of BSD Cafe. There isn't an automatic sign-up process (snac2 does not provide one, as it wasn't designed to create large communities).

For information and details, I suggest reading the relevant page on our Wiki: wiki.bsd.cafe/snac.bsd.cafe

Have a great week!

In light of recent events with the queer.af domain, I believe it would be highly beneficial for Fediverse platforms to support instance migration between domains. This would ensure complete portability and the ability to restore the entire instance on another domain and TLD, in case of emergencies.

What are your thoughts? (Especially the devs)

Thank you!

@lattera@bsd.network @tara@hachyderm.io @stefano@bsd.cafe thank you both for mentioning me and keeping my posts in mind :)

So, when it comes to the VF2 board I tried to collect some information in general as well as VF2 specific ones. We also have a ( Matrix chat in the which you can find here:
:bsd.cafe

You can find more to regarding my initial ideas, reasons and information here: https://gyptazy.ch/misc/switching-from-arm64-to-open-riscv-hardware-architecture/

Some ( specific things like benchmarks, images (collection) or precompiled software like (Fediverse instance server), matrix-synapse (Matrix server), etc can be found here:
https://gyptazy.ch/misc/collection-of-images-and-information-for-risc64-board-visionfive2/

Keep in mind that not all OS images may work fully and may lack drivers. For my one for example you can just boot into memory. Debian runs quite well but still needs a custom kernel (do not upgrade the kernel unless you know what you’re doing). Even RISCV is tier 2 level in FreeBSD many things are missing. Pkg completely, ports is a mess. However, you may find QEMU RISCV images to cross-build stuff from your amd64 or ARM64 machine right here: https://gyptazy.ch/misc/freebsd-14-riscv64-build-box-image-for-qemu/

Here you can find a real life test where the board served for a day my whole website (based on and some other ones:

I want to publicly thank @grunfink@comam.es for creating the amazing snac2, which powers my instance.
They've read everything I noted, suggested changes, and adapted the code to make it work optimally even on my slow VM. If all open source developers were as kind and helpful as they have been with me, the world would be an idyllic place.
A shoutout to @stefano@bsd.cafe too - using snac2 was his idea, and he's responsible for the technical implementation of the instance.
And thanks to everyone who makes my timeline interesting and complete - without you, all of this would be utterly pointless.

Link and resource verification is (IMHO) an important part in the - especially when everyone can create and use the same name on any other federated instance to fake your profile. Therefore, I really want to see this also in / .

We could use the same approach like , fetch the resource added by the user, write the date in a file and use this for the validated_at field of the resource. @grunfink@comam.es - do you have already any plans? Maybe I can provide a PR…

Btw: what about the follower/followed by counter on the mastodon API - I heard this is intentionally not provided?

Stefano Marinelli »
@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe

Just submitted the PR to the dev with notifications support, both self-hosted or using the official ntfy.sh server. This brings enhanced privacy when utilizing a self-hosted server, eliminating the need for external services.
Token authentication is also supported.
