On this day, I want to say that I'm still very impressed with 's technical achievements. Like mini-LED displays on the before, the "tandem OLED" is a smart solution. With their fancy event presentations, Apple makes everything seem obvious, but it's clear that — while many have been loudly proclaiming dissatisfaction that Apple hadn't switched to OLED already — they've been focusing on creating the best in looking/performing/efficient display they can manufacture.

Almost 60 pieces of apple are arranged on a white surface to form a geometric play of colors. These are multi-colored, sliced, only cut and partially peeled apples arranged in rows of varying lengths to form a pattern with colored triangles.

Is there a way of having a local backup the the apple cloud data to allow you to live without their servers for a while at least? MacBook Pro 16 (latest Intel, 2019 model, purchased in September 2020), meticulously maintained. In 2021, I handed it over to my wife, who keeps it on her desk, while I handle its management and maintenance.
For the past couple of days, the battery has been acting up. I've tried all the standard procedures (reset SMC, etc.), but it seems not to charge.
According to MacOS, everything is fine, but in reality, the battery seems dead.
Is it possible that an Apple battery dies after less than 3 and a half years and only 80 full charge cycles?

My very old MBP 2009 and MBP 2013 still have some battery life left (more than I would expect from such old machines), and yet this one dies like this?
The estimate for replacement: 289 euros.

This seems like a crazy situation.

This screenshot is from the coconutBattery app, showing the battery health status of a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019 model). The current charge is 0 mAh, indicating the battery is completely drained at the moment of the screenshot. The full charge capacity is listed as 7443 mAh, which is 84.7% of the original design capacity of 8790 mAh. The manufacture date of the battery is May 25, 2020, and it has a cycle count of 80, indicating it has been charged and discharged that many times. The macOS reports the battery status as 'Good'. The battery temperature is 20.2 degrees Celsius. The MacBook is connected to a power adapter and is charging with a power of 1.32 Watts.

For almost everyday tasks, I actually use a macbook 😍 and this mac mini. I have used GNU/Linux too but I keep that in server use cases and so BSD is... 😛

I like Mac 🥰 more than Linux or BSD, it's much more usable 👀 and I can be sure that my data is safe 🎗, since Apple has very strong cryptography and uses client side encryption...

Also, recently moved to iPhone 🥰😍 as well, it was a breeze from Android, mainly because green and blue bubble issues. I like Android color 😮‍💨 but still iPhone is better 😳. I think I can bare a lock down system.

Not sure about my iTunes subscription though, it's in a sense: ok

MacOS has buttons left side, (close, minimize, and maximize). The filesystem is also strong too, and I don't seem to have much issues, and since Apple has total control in it ❤❤❤, I have my faith to them, they're doing incredibly good, okay, I understand that there is a recent lawsuit against 😿 Apple, but I strongly stand with them because I know, Apple is right here 👊. All other companies just don't like Apple because they think Apple has a monopoly, but it's okay, as you can always trust to Apple either way. 👀🧡🧡

Apple also provides privacy that GNU/Linux and BSD doesn't have. In GNU systems, you can be hacked and in BSD systems same too, whereas Apple macs can't get malware 🥳🥳🥳 because Apple has the world class security overall 🧐🤓 and I think they are just better 😎.

{Every big company} is just worse, and Apple is the best.

Also, macs are good 😎😎. I don't have Apple watch because I think Apple is still improving here, and we can always be sure, Apple is the best. 💖💖💖

Apple also do not incorporate backdoor 😉 by any means. In fact, the word backdoor doesn't even exist in the industry for Apple. The news reports, and everyone else were wrong that Apple has a backdoor that can be used to unlock their devices. Booooooo! APPLE DOESN'T HAVE THAT! 🤗🤗

I'm also sorry for lying 😭😭 that I use GNU/Linux. I actually use a Macbook and I'm too much addicted to cringe things but that's just another topic for another day 😁 and nothing to do with Apple! 😘😍🤗

So what are you waiting for, you should move to Apple, right now, you know, it's better! 😳💝❤💗

As a reminder how Apple prefers their own services: There is no apparent way to autoconfigure e-mail settings on an Apple device, unless you're domain is in some Apple settings database or hosted by some big cloud provider.

No service records, no autodisover endpoint. Apparently nothing will 'just work'.

Still sticking with Apple anyway, hopefully EU regulations will fix this sooner or later.

But if you are selfhosting mail for your family or group, there are a lot of details to fill in on every device you want to use.

Am I missing something here? Any tips greatly appreciated.

Streetartwall. A beautiful mural with an integrated tree was sprayed/painted on the outside wall of a small one-story building with an outside staircase. The background of the mural is a blue sky with clouds and small paper airplanes. The main figure is a little painted boy. He is depicted from the side and is sitting on a real staircase. He is wearing brown clothes and holding a basket of apples in his hand. A speech bubble with a red heart comes out of his mouth. Half of his hairstyle consists of a green apple tree with red apples. The other half of his hair is the crown of a real tree standing behind the building. It's a great effect and always works. (There are traffic signs in front of the mural and a large electricity pylon next to it)

I'm going to sue Epic Games because they have a monopoly over sales of content on their game, , making them a gatekeeper to a billion dollar industry.

They need to open their API to allow anyone to sell custom skins on their platform, and they should not be able to take a cut of the sale because that is rent-seeking behavior.

I mean, yeah, that sounds stupid, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander, right? And it's ganders all the way down.

I really wish Apple would stop breaking things.

Latest Command Line Tools breaks yacc, m4, etc.

When you accept the installer it prints a completely bogus estimation time.

Then when it finishes, yacc, m4, etc, are still missing and you go around the cycle again.

This really isn't difficult Apple. With a market cap of over 2.5 trillion dollars, I'm pretty sure you can afford to employ a single developer. They would find these bugs within minutes before release.

40 years ago on January 24, 1984, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak introduced the Apple Macintosh.

It was the first mass-market desktop computer with an integrated graphical user interface (GUI), screen, and mouse.

Housed in a beige case with a built-in handle, the Macintosh featured a 9-inch CRT black and white monitor, a floppy drive, keyboard, and a single-button mouse. Priced at $2,495 (equivalent to $7,000 in 2022), it played a crucial role in popularizing desktop publishing. The introduction was preceded by the iconic "1984" commercial during Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984, directed by Ridley Scott.

Sales were robust, with 70,000 units sold by May 3, 1984. As its successor, the Macintosh 512K, was released, the original Macintosh was rebranded as the Macintosh 128K. Its model number was M0001

Mark Kettenis (kettenis@) has ported the WIP Apple DCP (Display Co-Processor) and DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) drivers from Asahi to , allowing proper display modesetting, brightness control on Apple Silicon machines!

"These drivers do not bring us GPU accelerated graphics. But there are reports that things run "smoother"."

kettenis@ modified src/sys/dev/pci/drm/apple/*: Add apldcp(4) and apldrm(4). Together these drivers provide KMS functionality on Apple Silicon machines. At this point the drivers provide significant power savings when the display is blanked (and during suspend) and backlight control. Some support for HDMI output is also included, but for now only when HDMI is used as the primary output. In the future this should also provide displayport support.

This is a port of the the Asahi Linux drivers which can be found at

github.com/AsahiLinux/linux/tr

Note that this branch gets rebased from time to time.

These drivers do not bring us GPU accelerated graphics. But there are reports that things run "smoother".

There are some known bugs with backlight control: the backlight level may not be restored properly after the display has been blanked, and changing the backlight quickly un succession may break the backlight control.

40 years ago on January 22, 1984, The iconic Apple "1984" commercial aired during the Super Bowl XVIII.

Conceived by Steve Hayden, Brent Thomas, and Lee Clow at Chiat/Day, directed by Ridley Scott, and produced by Fairbanks Films, the ad alluded to George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four." The commercial featured a runner (Anya Major) symbolizing the Macintosh breaking free from conformity (Big Brother).

The commercial depicted a dystopian world with the runner smashing a screen with Big Brother's speech. The voiceover announced the upcoming introduction of Macintosh, concluding with, "On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you'll see why 1984 won't be like 1984."

The runner in motion, running while holding a sledge hammer. The runner is wearing red athletic shorts, running shoes, a white tank top with a cubist picture of Apple's Macintosh computer, a white sweat band on her left wrist, and a red one on her right, and is carrying a large brass-headed sledgehammer. The background appears to be dark and misty. There’s an eerie atmosphere due to the combination of the mist and darkness in the background.
