Ok I’m considering replacing nginx/haproxy loadbalancers on linux with openbsd+relayd. This to serve/proxy/tls terminate mastodon and nextcloud on linux boxes

Is there prior art that I can remix?

Dite les gens qui connaissent et sur le bout des doigts, que pensez-vous d'un <url> qui ramène ce que j’attends et un FF, avec la même url, qui dit qu'il ne trouve pas le site en question :
Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

I realised over the weekend that the pace of work on my winter projects has slowed. I have achieved a good few things and the plan did get me through the dark cold winter months. I enjoyed the courses I took and am really pleased with on the .

Some of the courses and projects I did not get to will be very useful, so instead of calling time, I think I will continue to proceed, but at a slower tempo and with a rebalanced focus on enjoying the summer.

@grahamperrin if your org can be improved by garbage like , then that means there was previously not a good way to get hold of anyone nor get people to take ownership of projects or organize effectively.

  • It says more about said organization than the tech, because it must've been an utter shitshow before...

So I imagine stuff to be way better if it were to use @nextcloud / to fully organize everything or even just @zulip / for effective that is actually and not an unstable mess that can't be used on narrowband connections at all...

Also what you described is called , A standard even as & -capable option or even of all things does employ.

and are just the shittiest implementations and unlike don't even have the saving grave of delivering super-crisp high-res video for what they cost...

Do you remember when, around 7 years ago, one of the big promises from @nextcloud was to create a foundation?

A foundation that could, among other things, give the community a voice, and produce a coding style guideline striving for compatible and portable code.

I do.

Having previously set one to be a mini web server providing approximate room temperature available in , spent some time this evening working with my second Pico W.

Again it is a web server accessible through NextCloud, but this one is a password generator.

Pleased with how it has turned out - a good result.

Did you know that can be configured as a fantastic Google Photos alternative too? NC can index the metafata of your photos, show them in events, on a timeline and even on a privacy respecting map!

Really, the time is here (and has been here) to move away from people farmers and reclaim your privacy. Once and for all.

As always:

If you run a @nextcloud instance, you might like to try its messaging and calling add-on called Nextcloud Talk. It lets you set up a closed internal messaging system for everyone on your instance, with a dedicated mobile app available on all major platforms. The system supports messaging, voice and video calling, file transfers etc.

There's a review of Nextcloud Talk here:

...and the official site at:

Summing it up:
* I like Radicale for its simplicity, but it seems to be tailored for small-scale deployments. More, it lacks calendar invite sending capabilities but supports IMAP authentication.
* Baikal offers calendar invite functionalities and seems better suited for larger installations but doesn't support IMAP authentication.
* Nextcloud ticks all the boxes, but I'm in search of providing a dedicated mail system, not a file storage and sharing solution.

Still on the quest to find the most convincing solution...

@rakekniven
has never provided official support for , which, to a certain extent, seems reasonable to me. However, if Frank @Karlitschek 's statement today regarding 'Nextcloud remaining 100% committed to open source' is accurate, it is unreasonable that future versions/installations could not be reproduced on other 'open source' operating systems, solely because a 'dockerization path' might be chosen.

Every time I visit Nextcloud's documentation, I get the impression of being a second-class citizen, always worried that with each new version, this project will turn into a farm of dockerized images.

Warning
Nextcloud does not have official OpenBSD or other BSDs support

@viktor

I was thinking more about a note on whether considers they can live with the change in the license type, and if not, mentioning it properly in the online installation manual where was previously officially supported.

is owned by , they don't give it the same use, and they would have to move their code up to version 7.
From the comments I've read so far, they don't seem very interested.

and PlaceholderKV are very young

I wonder if @nextcloud will be preparing an official statement regarding the license change, after considering its impact and the official support it has received so far 🤔

A few months ago, I persuaded a client to abandon an external cloud system and use Nextcloud on their own server instead. Powered by FreeBSD and ZFS, it has already demonstrated its strengths on a couple of occasions (such as in the case of a snapshot rollback). This morning, they expressed the desire to abandon the various WhatsApp groups they use for coordination and to use a solution "all on their servers." I was inspired and quickly installed both an ejabberd and a Matrix server (Synapse) - which they will probably prefer, according to the latest news they sent me - on two FreeBSD jails.

Today, we have the awareness and experience of what it means to give our data to large companies, completely losing control over it. We have the tools, so why not use them?
And I'm really happy when someone like them, thanks to their willingness to try "new" solutions, realizes the alternatives to the colorful, advertised, warmly recommended (by salespeople) "proprietary" solutions.

@nebucatnetzer Have you looked at the `nextcloudcmd` command line client? That's what I typically use on headless servers. I also tried WebDAV access in the past, as you mention, but mostly unsuccessfully.
