- Wearable Devices: If you need to be reachable and can’t fully disconnect, you may still be connected in a limited way for urgent and important things and people.
Wearable devices could help you in digital detoxing by having just a limited functionality. For me, it’s important to still be able to accept calls and to answer iMessages, regular text messages or to reach out to someone but not to interact in any kind of social medias. This is where wearables step in, especially when they have additional connectivities like cellular. But at this point it already might get difficult, because many devices can not last the whole day when connected on a cellular connection. After testing multiple devices, it turns out that only the Apple Watch Cellular was able to fit my requirements. When feeling stressed of social medias, I just leave with the watch on my wrist without loosing any comfort. The watch automatically switches between a Bluetooth connection with the iPhone, a WIFI connection at home or office or even a cellular connection to my mobile operator by 4G/LTE.
This being said, I still do not need to loose any comfort. I’m still reachable by call, can reach out to people by call, iMessage and regular messages but also can use it as a key at work and for the car. Doing my daily sports sessions, listening and streaming songs from Spotify isn’t any problem as well as paying any things in the grocery store with Apple Pay.
All this supports in being able to still use all mandatory and comfortable things but not being distracted by unimportant spam notifications. Especially on the weekend and on vacation this kicks in to focus on the really important things.
